Sachin Tendulkar, the legendary cricketer, was pleasantly surprised to hear the news of a life-sized statue of him being planned at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. The news was announced by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) on Wednesday.
Tendulkar, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest batsmen of all time, expressed his gratitude to the MCA for the honour. He said, “I am humbled and overwhelmed by the gesture of the MCA. It is a great honour for me and I am truly grateful for it.”
The statue, which is expected to be unveiled in the near future, will be placed at the entrance of the stadium. It will be a fitting tribute to the cricketer who has been a part of the Indian cricket team for more than two decades.
Tendulkar, who has been a part of the Indian cricket team since 1989, has scored more than 34,000 runs in international cricket. He is the only cricketer to have scored 100 international centuries and is the highest run-scorer in both Tests and ODIs.
The MCA has also announced that the statue will be accompanied by a plaque that will have a brief description of Tendulkar’s achievements. The plaque will also have a quote from the cricketer himself.
Tendulkar said, “I am looking forward to seeing the statue and the plaque. It will be a reminder of my journey in cricket and I am sure it will inspire many youngsters to take up the sport.”
The MCA has also said that the statue will be a part of a larger project that will include a museum and a library dedicated to the cricketer. The project is expected to be completed in the next few years.
Tendulkar said, “I am sure the project will be a great success and I am looking forward to seeing it come to life.”
The news of the statue has been welcomed by cricket fans across the country. It is a fitting tribute to the cricketer who has been an inspiration to millions of people.
