Daniil Medvedev has reflected on his victory over Andy Murray at the Qatar Open, claiming it was a tough match.
The Russian tennis star defeated the former world number one in three sets, 6-4, 6-4, to win the tournament.
Speaking after the match, Medvedev said: “It was a tough match. Andy is a great player and he showed why he is a former world number one. He was playing really well and I had to be at my best to beat him.”
The 23-year-old also praised Murray for his resilience and determination throughout the match.
“He was fighting until the very end and I had to stay focused and keep my concentration to win. I’m really happy to have won this tournament and I’m looking forward to the next one.”
Medvedev’s victory in Qatar marks his fourth ATP Tour title and his first since winning the Shanghai Masters in October.
The Russian is now looking ahead to the Australian Open, which starts in January.
“I’m feeling confident and I’m looking forward to the Australian Open. I’m going to keep working hard and hopefully I can have a good run there.”
