Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has expressed his delight at the return to form of young midfielder Phil Foden.
The 20-year-old has been in impressive form for the Premier League champions in recent weeks, scoring four goals in his last five appearances.
Guardiola has been full of praise for the England international, and is not surprised by his recent performances.
“Phil is a special player,” Guardiola said. “He has been with us since he was a kid and he has always had the quality to play at this level.
“He is a very intelligent player and he understands the game very well. He is a very complete player and he can play in different positions.
“He is a very important player for us and I am very happy with his performances. He is a very important part of our team.”
Foden has been a regular in the City side this season, making 24 appearances in all competitions.
He has also been a regular in the England squad, making his senior debut in October 2019 and scoring his first international goal against Iceland in November.
Guardiola believes Foden has the potential to become one of the best players in the world.
“Phil has the potential to become one of the best players in the world,” Guardiola said. “He has the quality and the mentality to do it.
“He is still young and he needs to keep working hard and improving. But I am sure he will become one of the best players in the world.”
Foden has been a key part of City’s success this season, helping them to the top of the Premier League table and into the Champions League semi-finals.
Guardiola is confident that Foden will continue to improve and become an even better player in the future.
