The Indian National Congress (INC) has been criticised for not being vocal enough on issues such as the Bilkis Bano case and the murder of people in the name of cow vigilantism. Speaking at a press conference in New Delhi, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor said that the party could have done more to raise awareness about these issues.

Tharoor said that the INC should have been more vocal in its condemnation of the Bilkis Bano case, in which a 19-year-old woman was gang-raped during the 2002 Gujarat riots. Tharoor also criticised the government for its failure to take action against cow vigilantes who have been responsible for the murder of innocent people in the name of protecting cows. He said that the government should have taken a stronger stance against such vigilantism and should have done more to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.
